Two of the Muscogee County schools, Shaw and Kendrick High School participated in our Career Transitional Day that was held at the Economic Development Center in Columbus, Georgia. The day was filled with speakers and representatives from local industries, post-secondary institutions, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) and the HSHT Trainer, Joy Norman. Mr. Pouncey, from the Ozark Bank talked about the benefits and dangers of credit card use. Members from Columbus Chamber of Commerce shared interesting information about the many career opportunities that Columbus has to offer. Mrs. Joy Norman did an interactive presentation on Self-Advocacy. She allowed the students to create a picture of themselves using categories to determine how to react in different situations according to their personality to advocate for themselves. The GBI presenters, stole the show with real-life situations that they encounter on a day today basis. The students found themselves amazed at the enlightening demonstrations and the career opportunities available in their area. The students showed enthusiasm by asking questions, roleplaying, and winning door-prizes. The transition day was a fun-filled learning experience for students from both Kendrick and Shaw high schools.
